“I Have a Dream”

In commemoration of MLK day, Duke Professor Richard Lischer will discuss his book, The Preacher King: Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Word that Moved America. Join us for an evening of reflection and inspiration on the power of MLK Jr. and the Jewish community’s role in the Civil Rights Movement.
A native of St. Louis, Richard Lischer was educated at Washington University, Concordia Seminary, and the University of London. He has taught at Duke Divinity School for 34 years in the areas of ministry and practical theology. He is the author or editor of twelve books, including a prize-winning study of Martin Luther King, Jr., The Preacher King: Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Word that Moved America. He appeared in the PBS documentary God in America in the segment devoted to the Civil Rights Movement. His most recent book is a memoir published in 2013 by Alfred A. Knopf, Stations of the Heart: Parting with a Son. He is married to Tracy Kenyon Lischer, a Durham attorney. They live in Orange County.
