OPENING FALL 2024!

Jewish for Good is excited to announce the opening of the Adult Day Program at the Norma and Robert Gindes Center, opening fall 2024 at the Levin JCC!

Our successful BUILDING FOR GOOD Capital Campaign has enabled us to deliver on a critical need identified by our community: expanding our services for older adults, our fastest growing population. We are now able to provide daytime care for older adults who, because of their physical, cognitive, emotional, or social needs, require such care.

Demand for adult day care services in the Triangle far exceeds the supply of available care providers, and unlike any other local programs, ours is designed to enhance the Jewish experience for each of our participants.

The Adult Day Program at Jewish for Good’s Norma and Robert Gindes Center is designed to provide an engaging, social, enriching, and safe environment for participants and to support participants’ caregivers and families by providing respite.

Our Adult Day Program is licensed through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. It will operate Monday through Friday and make use of the existing host of programs and services run at the Levin JCC.

Programmed activities and events will take advantage of everything our Jewish campus has to offer: the Levin JCC’s Health and Wellness Center, The Lerner Jewish Community Day School, and our many outdoor spaces and garden.

Examples of activities include: art projects, musical performances and participation, historical and cultural programs, intergenerational celebrations focusing on Jewish holidays, and physical care and exercise.

Each day, participants will be served a hot lunch, plus morning and afternoon snacks — prepared in the licensed commercial kitchen at Jewish for Good’s J Café.

If you want to keep up to date on the Adult Day Program, please fill out our inquiry form below. You can also contact the Gindes Center’s Adult Day Program by email (adultday@jewishforgood.org) or phone (984-253-4648) anytime.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • The Adult Day Program requires enrollment; it is not a “drop-in” center. It is a fee-for-service program, separate from Levin JCC membership. JCC membership is not required for enrollment in the program. The Adult Day Program is for participants with the impairments mentioned above.

Aides are not permitted. While we expect to provide ongoing support, information, and advice to caregivers (and we hope to provide networking events for caregivers and families), the daily program activities are not targeted towards individuals participating with their caregivers.

  • There is no minimum age for enrollment, however the program will be designed with a focus on the needs of older adults with memory and/or physical impairment. Given the social model of care and the interactive design of the program, participants will need to be able to engage with the programmed activities, and with the group.

The needs of the individual, as well as their ability to interact with and contribute to the program will be factors that are considered during the enrollment process. We want all participants to thrive and to be enriched by the program. If during the screening process JFG determines that the program is not ideally suited to meet an individual’s needs, we will support the family with advice about alternative care options.

Program participants will need to be bowel continent. Mild bladder incontinence may be accommodated, depending on the individual’s ability to toilet or change clothing independently or with minimal assistance.

  • Acceptance to the Program will be contingent upon completing the enrollment process, the medical report, and the Program’s ability to meet the needs of the applicant.

The enrolment process will involve screening via an initial enrolment form. If eligibility criteria are met, the Program Director will meet with the prospective participant and their family or caregiver to gain more information about the participant, their interests and abilities, care needs and daily routines.

Following submission of a medical examination report, the Program Director will discuss program enrolment availability and relevant fees with the family or caregiver.

The prospective participant would then be invited to attend the Program on a tour and/or (once the Program is operating) to attend the Program for a half day, to participate in some activities and to meet the staff and fellow participants.
