Supporting Our Community

Serving as the vibrant hub of our local Jewish community is core to our mission. That means working closely with our community partners to welcome newcomers, spread the word of what is happening locally, forge partnerships, and convene the community. It also means serving as a resource and collaborator for our broader local community.

How We Support Our Community:

Combating Local Antisemitism

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum puts it simply: Antisemitism is the prejudice against or hatred of Jews.

Jewish for Good is committed to working with our community to address antisemitism incidents and provide educational opportunities and support.

External Community Allocations

A core mission of Jewish for Good is to provide support to people in need with an emphasis on Jewish people in need around the world.  External allocations are funded through support to our annual campaign; these are funds we give outside of our organization to support local, state, national, and international organizations. We prioritize our allocations following these tenets:

  1. We need to support the local structures that can provide important services and programs at the local level.

  2. We need to make rooms in our hearts and wallets for giving overseas, to Israel, as this is a significant value and tradition of Jewish peoplehood.

  3. We have an obligation to give “Jewishly” to local non-Jewish organizations in some way.

Our external allocations are designed to support educational, social service, and charitable programs that promote the Jewish values of K’lal Yisrael (taking responsibility for one another), Tzedakah (charity and righteousness), and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world).

The external allocation process takes place each fall, using funds granted before the end of the calendar year. At this time, we are not inviting new organizations to apply, to ensure we can best support the organizations we have long-standing relationships with.

Central Hub for Local Jewish Community

As the central hub and community living room, there are many ways we work to support our local Jewish community partner organizations.

EDGE - Enrichment, Development, Growth, and Education

Twice a year, Jewish for Good brings together the senior leadership staff of our local Jewish organizations for professional development. Not only is this an opportunity for continued learning, but this also provides a foundation for strong partnerships and collaborations within the community. For more information, email Jill Madsen.

Administrative Support

As a community, we are better together! This means support and collaboration are always top of mind. As is ensuring we are always using community resources in a fiscally responsible way.

As the community’s central hub, we are able to assist partner organizations in various ways. These include:

  • Payroll administration

  • Employee benefit administration

  • Marketing support

  • Central mailing address

To explore these opportunities, email Jill Madsen.

Resources and Training for Broader Local Community

To fulfill our duty of K’lal Israel (taking responsibility for one another), Tzedakah (charity and righteousness), and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), it is crucial for us to be an active participant in the broader local community. This means giving “Jewishly,” serving as a resource, and finding opportunities to support local non-Jewish organizations in some way.

Hadera, Israel

The Israel Center, together with area Jewish Federations, joined a Triangle Israel Task Force several years ago. This task force helps support the Ethiopian community of Ganei Alon (“gardens of oak trees”) in our sister city, Hadera. Each year we collect and send items to Hadera: we do a backpack drive in the fall and a costume drive for Purim in the spring. Check out this article from the Hadera newspaper recognizing our community efforts in helping the Ethiopian immigrants of Ganei Alon.
