Jillian is originally from Graham, NC. She has a Masters in Arts Administration from Indiana University. She is a yogi, a crafter, a sewer, and an astrology lover. Jillian handles day-to-day operations for summer and School’s Out camps and is the main contact for registration and camper questions and concerns.
Madeline Seltman, MSW, Director of Engagement

Madeline has worked at the JCC since 2010 and oversees kids and adults programming, family programs and events, childcare, and programs for people with special needs. She has two kiddos, a Lerner School preschooler and a baby. Madeline is the main contact for special needs inclusion and scholarships.

Exavier, Head Counselor
Exavier works for DPS and enjoys being around kids, probably because deep down (or maybe even on the surface) he’s a big kid himself!
Clare, Program Assistant/LIT Facilitator
Clare is a rising sophomore at Appalachian State University, studying Child Development Birth-Kindergarten. Her favorite animals are a Skunk and a Polar bear.
Erica, Inclusion Facilitator
Erica works during the school year for the Chapel Hill Carrboro school system and the Arc of the Triangle. She has been working with kids and young adults with special needs for over 8 years and is glad to be back at Camp Shelanu!
Tara, Inclusion Facliitator
Tara just graduated from University of North Carolina Wilmington in Recreational Therapy and is excited to be back for a third summer at camp! Tara is super adventurous and outgoing and loves going to the beach and traveling!
Carleigh, Aerial Silks and Jewish Values Specialist
Carleigh is studying Public Relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and will be a senior this fall. She is so excited to be spending her fifth summer at the JCC. She has a Bernese Mountain Dog that weighs more than 120 pounds!!
Michelle, Sports Specialist
Michelle has worked at the JCC for 5 years and run Circus camps for 4 years. She is excited to take on this new role with Camp Shelanu!
Chris, Nature Specialist
Chris has been a teacher for 19 years and is returning to Camp Shelanu for his second summer. He doesn’t always like to meditate but tries anyway.
Hannah, Snakes Specialist
Hannah is excited to teach the campers about her two ball pythons, Maxine and Samantha, this summer.
Eve, Zumba Specialist
Eve is a recent graduate from Durham Academy who will be attending Washington University in St.Louis in the fall. She loves to draw, eat ice cream, and travel!
Scott, Aftercare Supervisor
Scott is a native North Carolinian and father of two. His hobbies include woodworking, Magic the Gathering and lawnmower maintenance.
Bar will be a counselor, mostly with 4th and 5th grades. She loves dance and photography, and was a shlicha at a Jewish day camp in Chicago 2 years ago!
Noa will be our Israeli Culture and Drama specialist. She loves to sing and perform!
Mikko is studying exercise science at Appalachian state, and returning for his third summer at the JCC. He spends his free time playing ultimate Frisbee and the ukulele.
Gwen is a student at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. She loves making collages, taking photographs around Durham, and drinking chai tea.
Josh is studying Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and will be a sophomore this fall (and has yet to be converted into a UNC fan; the Duke loyalty is strong).
Sophie is graduating Jordan High school this year and is so excited to have a fun filled summer at Camp Shelanu! She really enjoys signing, swimming and arts and crafts!
Kaylen just finished his freshman year at Davidson College. He can name all 50 state capitals.
Rebecca is attending VCU. She also loves Chipotle!
Elizabeth a rising sophomore at UNC- Chapel Hill where she is studying history and French. Her favorite animal is the slow loris.
Joel is a student at Butler University. He loves chicken pot pies and spaghetti.
Dorian is a rising senior at Emerson Waldorf High School. She is a competitive jump roper and has jump roped in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC! She can also name every person in her high school.
Alexis is an Adapted Special Education Major at East Carolina University and is looking forward to having a great second summer session at the JCC!
Michael is a rising senior at HawBridge charter school. His goal is to set the world record for the most bagels eaten in a single hour.
Kati will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill in the Fall. She enjoys long walks to the fridge, dancing, running, yoga-ing, and basically any other sport that doesn’t involve balls.
Jen is a rising Junior at East Chapel Hill High School. She enjoys traveling to new and exciting places, and trying new things.
Shir is a rising IB senior at Cedar Ridge High, having moved to NC from El Paso, Texas last summer! Shir is an avid theater geek and plans to spend his paycheck on the next available Hamilton tickets– so, some time in 2021.
Kieran is a student and UNC Chapel Hill studying Psychology and Sexuality Studies. Other interests include playing music, wearing hats, and baking pies.
Janelle is excited to be working her first summer at Camp Shelanu! She is planning to become a pediatrician.
Mollie is a rising junior at the American Hebrew Academy. She loves hot sauce, dogs, and hugging trees.
Ellie is a rising junior at Durham School of the Arts where she plays soccer and writes for the school newspaper. As a little kid, Ellie always wanted to run her own hot dog stand.
Caroline will be attending UNC Greensboro in the fall, and hopefully majoring in either nursing, journalism, pre-law, or social work. She loves cute baby animals, plays the tuba, and can’t do a cartwheel.
Priya loves working with children and singing, and can’t wait to share the summer with everyone at Camp Shelanu!
Alfredo is an Eagle Scout who enjoys running learning new things! He really likes making puns and is named after a pasta
Maddie is a rising sophomore at New York University. Although she’s technically an adult, she still enjoys kids shows like SpongeBob every now and then (just don’t tell her friends that!).
Ethan is a rising junior at Durham Academy, where he runs cross country and track. He actually went to Camp Shelanu when he was a youngster (back in the stone age).
