Inclusion through BRIDGES

BRIDGES is an initiative of the Durham-Chapel Hill Jewish Federation, committed to enhancing the lives of people with special needs and their families by promoting inclusion, increasing public awareness, and facilitating mutual support in a welcoming Jewish setting and in the broader community.


  • Makes sure that people with special needs and their families are included in Federation programs and activities.
  • Develops social, recreational, and cultural programs and activities for people with special needs.
  • Offers technical assistance/support
  • Helps create friendships and social connections between individuals with and without special needs.
  • Enhances social, emotional, and physical development and self-esteem of all who participate in our programs.

BRIDGES does this through…

Sensational Sunday

Monthly recreational programs with music, games, crafts, snacks, and activities for people of all abilities. These events take place on Sunday afternoons, at the Levin JCC, from 2:30-4pm.  RSVP recommended to 

Young Adult Group

This is a social group for young adults with special needs. We facilitate two sessions during the academic year; each session is 8 weeks long and meets on Monday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm, at the Levin JCC.

Jewish Disabilities Awareness and Inclusion Month takes place annually in February. It is a time for special programming and events that promote the national Jewish agenda to raise awareness and increase resources to serve people with special needs. The following programs will be happening in 2017 to honor JDAIM:

Family Connections

Monthly program that brings speakers and learning.  This program is geared towards family members whom are connected to an individual with special needs. The following programs will take place for the 2016-2017 series:
